REGULAR readers (oh come on, there must be a couple of you) will be eager to know the results of my experimental lonely hearts ad, placed in the local paper (for local people, of course) a couple of weeks ago.
So far the ad has appeared twice, and I’ve had the grand total of seven replies. I’m not sure if this is good going or not, but it pleased me (yes, I am easily pleased).
As far as I can ascertain, none of the repliees (is that a word?) is rich or immensely good looking, and I was a little disappointed that David Tennant didn’t leave a message – though I don’t suppose he gets to see copies of the Wirral News much...
Nevertheless, it did lead to the hitherto unknown experience of having two men ringing and texting me at the same time, eager to make my acquaintance.
One of these, a big flirt of a policeman who shall remain anonymous to protect his job, rang me while on duty and chatted away for more than half an hour, about this and that, before casually mentioning that he had to go, as he needed to check on his prisoners. I assume he had already taken their shoelaces off them...
I met the other chap, with whom I have a lot in common, on Saturday and have seen him twice since. Although he’s no Ewan MacGregor (ie, not rich, good looking, famous or a Jedi warrior), we seem to have hit it off, and though I don’t think I’ll be swept off my feet just yet, I may well be getting a Valentine’s card next week.
And if I don’t, I’ve still got the phone numbers of six other sad, lonely middle-aged men to try...
