IT seems to be one of the modern world’s greatest ironies that half the world struggles daily to find enough to eat, while the other half is busy stuffing itself into obesity.
It’s also ironic that, of the latter, a growing proportion is constantly seeking ever more bizarre ways to shed excess fat.
Look, face it, there’s only one way to lose weight permanently, and that is to eat less and move around more.
Sod the cabbage soup, red and green days, slimming pills, slimming drinks, counting points, counting calories, counting steps, stomach stapling, jaw wiring, etc, etc, etc... losing weight is easy. Just stop eating so much.
Really, that’s all there is to it.
And before you whine about being hungry if you eat less, on the whole that’s rubbish – the majority of us eat far too much for our needs. We eat extra not because we’re hungry, but because we’re bored, or because it cheers us up, or because we like the taste.
Eat three moderate meals spaced evenly throughout your day and you won’t be hungry in-between. If you have the desire to eat between meals, find something else to do – preferably something which involves moving around, such as walking or doing housework – and the feeling will soon go away.
I know some of you will complain here that you really do only eat three, healthy meals a day, and exercise when you can, yet you still can’t lose weight. Well, I’m sorry, but that will be because you are still eating too much. Take a third off each portion and see what happens after two weeks.
I’m not bragging here, but I recently lost nearly a stone and a half in less than three months through nothing more than eating less and walking more. I can honestly say it was the easiest thing I have ever done, and do you know why? It was because I actually wanted to lose weight. I mean really wanted to.
In the past I have been on diets, lost around half a stone at a time, but put it all back on again afterwards. Because I was happy eating the amount I did, and feeling how I felt.
It’s the same with anything in life - if you really want to give up a habit, it can be done. But you have to really want it. Only you can make the change.
