Teacher, leave those kids alone

IF you’re a parent, you’ll probably be familiar with that horrible, stomach-crunching feeling you get whenever you receive a telephone call from your child’s school.
It’s never going to be good news... they don’t ring up to tell you your little cherub has been given a sticker for doing their sums right, or has just read the word ‘definitely’ without flinching... no, undoubtedly it’s something bad – in that second before they tell you, you just hope it’s nothing dreadful.

IT seems to be one of the modern world’s greatest ironies that half the world struggles daily to find enough to eat, while the other half is busy stuffing itself into obesity.
It’s also ironic that, of the latter, a growing proportion is constantly seeking ever more bizarre ways to shed excess fat.
Look, face it, there’s only one way to lose weight permanently, and that is to eat less and move around more.

SO it’s 2008, she said, stating the bleeding obvious again...
OK, what are you going to change this year? Have you made any resolutions yet, and if so, have you broken them already?
Being a non-smoker, moderate drinker, drug abstainer and all-round nice person (ahem...) I decided to make negative resolutions this year, one of which has been to swear more, the other of which is too rude for a family newspaper...
