GOOD friends are like good wine.
You put them in a cellar for years, they get dusty and age gracefully. Then when you pull them out 11 years later, they taste great!

IN 1985, long-haired aspiring rock star Mark Craig, by day a graphic designer, bought an answerphone because he was fed up of missing calls from friends and family.
Being one of the first answerphones around – and considered rather flash at the time – it recorded the messages on tapes, which you were supposed to wipe off and reuse.
But Mark had other ideas. He kept the used tapes, labelled them and put them away. For 20 years.

FOR the last few weeks, something has been invading my garden every night in order to slowly murder my marigolds.

ACCORDING to the internet, most spiders can live for a couple of years.
This piece of trivia has been keeping me awake for the past few nights, as it has suddenly taken on a significance hitherto undreamt of.

IN 1777, a certain Samuel Johnson said: “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.”
Two hundred and thirty years later, I think the same holds true.
Walking through the streets of our capital city last week with small daughter in tow, all life was present in its myriad forms.
