These boots were made for walking

Posted by Fading Rock Chick on May 18, 2007 11:57 AM |

IN the company of thousands of other gluttons for punishment, I will be taking part in the 2007 Wirral Coastal Walk on Sunday.

The annual event raises thousands of pounds for hundreds of different charities each year, as around 4,000 walkers traipse the 15 miles from Seacombe Ferry to Thurstaston - all the way along the North Wirral coastline and part-way along the leafy Wirral Way.
Organised by the North Wirral Rotary Club, the walk has been held for more than 20 years and is now firmly entrenched as an important event in Wirral's calendar.
Having done the walk several times before, I know what to expect - namely, rain.
The day of last year's walk was one of the rainiest anyone has ever seen. It never stopped bucketing down all day, yet there were still thousands of people dragging their sodden boots along the promenade.
Thankfully I only had to complete five miles last year (there are staging posts at 5, 10 and 13 miles for those wishing to do less than 15).
Pushing The Princess 5 miles in a borrowed pushchair was not my idea of fun (she was supposed to do some of the walk with me, but understandably refused to emerge from behind the rain cover).
This year there will be no daughter to worry about, and I will actually have some company along the route.
If you're taking part, good luck - and give me a wave.
If you're not, why not go along and cheer the walkers on their way.
And start praying now that the rainclouds stay away this year.
