A touch too much

I’M beginning to think Henry Ford had the right idea.
For several years at the early stages of motor car production, you could buy his famous Model T car in any colour you liked – as long as it was black.
I’m led to believe this was down to purely practical reasons – something to do with the black enamel being quickest to dry, thereby speeding up factory times.
However, it did mean the buyers’ choice was limited – something I often wish happened these days.
These boots were made for walking

IN the company of thousands of other gluttons for punishment, I will be taking part in the 2007 Wirral Coastal Walk on Sunday.
If you take a walk I'll tax your feet

SO tax doesn't have to be taxing, huh?
Big fat HA!
Breaking up is hard to do

I HAD a new fireplace and fire put in this week.
In estate agent speak, I am now the proud owner of an inset, living flame gas fire with an attractive cherry wood and black marble surround.
The only problem was, the old fireplace resolutely refused to leave its home.
I see trees of green, red roses too

I GREW up in a terraced house in Liverpool. We didn’t have a car, and spent a week every summer in Llandudno on the North Wales coast, with a day to Southport thrown in for good measure.
On my daily walk to school or the local shops, there would not be much to look at, nature-wise. Plenty of privet hedges, the odd stunted tree and the occasional pigeon were about as exciting as it got.
If you were lucky you would spot a couple of cats to stroke.
Thirty years later, I daily thank the fate that brought me to live in an area brimming with natural beauty and wildlife aplenty.
A nice day for a white wedding

SOMEONE please tell me how you explain modern-day Western relationships to a five-year-old.
It used to be so simple.
You may remember, when we were kids, it went like this: Boy meets girl. Boy marries girl after a suitable period of time. Girl has babies. They all live happily ever after.
Now it’s far more complicated. There are dozens of different scenarios, any one of which could be the way life turns out.
Ain't gonna need this house no longer

DO you know the Wirral Horn Arcade on Market Street in Hoylake?
No? Well, I’m sorry to say you never will.
A couple of weeks ago this fine old building was totally demolished to make way for a brand spanking new three-storey retail and office block.
Don’t worry... be happy

Ah, Ken Dodd. What a national treasure.
OK, I admit I’m not a huge fan, but some of you may remember it was that same buck-toothed Scouse comedian who took a song called Happiness into the charts in the 1960s (no, I wasn’t around then, either, but I know the song).
You remember it – “Happiness, happiness, the greatest gift that I possess...” etc etc, ad nauseam.
Now, I know it’s a rubbish song, but the thinking behind the lyrics is quite profound. Honest.
I trust I can rely on your vote

DO you know what day it is tomorrow?
The more knowledgeable of you will be aware that it’s local election day, although I must admit it’s pretty easy to let this fact pass you by these days.
I don’t know about where you live, but round our way (Wirral) we’ve not seen a single election leaflet, doorstepping candidate or megaphoning van.
