Get them on milk and alcohol

I DON’T know... you hang around for ages waiting for a daft suggestion about parenting, and then two come along at once.
A couple of days ago it was Professor Aric Sigman maintaining children shouldn’t watch any telly until they’re three – today it’s a body called Alcohol Concern saying it should be illegal to give youngsters under 15 alcohol IN THEIR OWN HOME.
TV dinners

HOW many hours of TV did your children watch yesterday?
Be honest, now – add it all up:
That half hour before school while you were getting ready.
The half hour at tea time when you were preparing the meal, followed by another half hour while you all sat in front of the telly eating it.
A day in the life

SOMETIME this morning a nameless judge in an anonymous courtroom in deepest Birkenhead will have sounded the latest death knell on my marriage.
Five and a half months after Soon-To-Be-Ex-Husband left home for good, my divorce becomes slightly more final today.
So I thought it would be a fitting time to take stock, a la Bridget Jones, of my life and how it has changed over that time.
It’s not quite a Jaguar

I’VE never been a big fan of cars.
I didn’t learn to drive until I was in my 20s, and have spent much of the intervening time trying to do as little of it as possible, sometimes making up wild excuses why I should not get behind the wheel.
All the lonely people

JUST call me Eleanor. Or, if you prefer, Ms Rigby.
During the last few days of the Easter school holidays, owing to The Princess going to stay with her dad for four nights, I briefly joined the ever-growing ranks of lone householders.
I don’t like Mondays

THERE are many ways one human being can kill another.
He – sorry, boys, more likely than not it’s a man – can bludgeon them round the head with a blunt instrument; stab them with a sharp one; drown them; run them over with a car; poison them; electrocute them; push them off a high building. Hell, even a single punch can do the trick.
But there is only one way, with the minimum of effort, to be sure to kill lots of people in a short space of time. With a gun.
It’s your duty to be beautiful

SO you think women are equal to men in this modern, civilised Western society?
You poor deluded thing.
Putting aside the many and important issues about equal pay, financial rights and the huge assumptions surrounding childcare, there is another matter which dates right back to the ancients and possibly even further.
Let me illustrate it by telling you a little story.
Just a little patience

THE Beatles may have believed all you need is love, but personally I think Guns ‘N’ Roses had it right: All you need is just a little patience.
Keep right on to the end of the road...

I HAD to say goodbye to two old friends the other week.
They were both very dear to me. In fact, since we met six or seven years ago they and I had become almost inseparable.
